In brief: Rose Bowl ring among recovered stolen items

A Rose Bowl championship ring belonging to former pro football player Stefan Humphries was among items recovered during a recent police investigation into a series of burglaries in the Spokane area.

But police are still looking for a Denver Broncos AFC Championship ring and a gold and diamond 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl pendant belonging to Humphries, the former medical director at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute.

Humphries now works in Nevada.

Members of the Spokane Police Department’s targeted crimes unit located the ring and other stolen property in a hotel room in Post Falls after arresting repeat offender Jonathan R. Anderson, 34, on June 21.

Anderson was driving a vehicle stolen from Dishman Dodge on East Sprague Avenue that contained thousands of dollars worth of stolen gold, silver and diamond jewelry. Police believe Anderson was part of a burglary ring responsible for stealing more than $150,000 worth of property.

Joseph Whipple, 24, Solomon Monkiewicz, 20, and a juvenile have also been arrested in connection with the burglaries. Their arrest led to the recovery of tens of thousands of dollars worth of stolen property.

Whipple, Monkiewicz, Anderson, Milo Laulaulo, 25, and Kelsi Bendewald, 22, face a slew of felony charges for the burglaries, including property and gun charges. Bendewald and Laulaulo were with Anderson when he was arrested last month.

Police raffling handgun to help officers’ families

A handgun is the top prize at a fundraiser raffle for two Spokane County sheriff’s deputies shot by a fugitive last month.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring the raffle, which will raise money for the families of Deputies Matt Spink and Mike Northway.

The Smith and Wesson M&P .40-caliber handgun was donated by law enforcement officials. Second prize is a weeklong vacation in Majahua Palms, Mexico.

Third prize is a guided half-day pheasant hunting trip in La Crosse, Wash. Other prizes will be offered.

Tickets, which are $5 each, can be purchased starting Monday at the Sheriff’s Office front desk at the Public Safety Building, 1100 W. Mallon Ave., between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Deputy Craig Chamberlin, spokesman for the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, said Grant County officials will ensure that the winner of the gun is eligible to own a firearm before he or she receives it.
