Spokane man presumed drowned in Little Spokane River

Stevens County Sheriff’s officers are searching for a man who they suspect drowned in the Little Spokane River near Long Lake Friday evening. KHQ-TV reports that the 21-year-old Spokane man went missing while swimming in a group. The man was not wearing a life jacket when he went underwater and never came back up. Sgt. Jim Caruso said there is no indication the man made his way to shore. The department has turned its focus from rescuing the man to recovering his body. The missing man has not yet been identified. Officers are waiting for a dive and sonar team to help with the search. The team may not arrive until Sunday.
