In brief: Man sentenced in arms export case

From Wire Reports

PORTLAND – An Oregon man has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for attempting to illegally export military-grade rifle scopes.

According to prosecutors, an investigator learned that 28-year-old Geoffrey Roose, of Corvallis, had sold export-restricted rifle scopes overseas without a required export license. When the investigator sent Roose an email advising him that the scopes were restricted for export, the agent received a reply that said only, “Thanks.”

Roose continued to offer the items on eBay. When an agent working undercover purchased one and asked that it be shipped to Europe, prosecutors say Roose shipped it.

Police: Man shot dead is brother

NAMPA, Idaho – Authorities in the city of Nampa said a 28-year-old man is dead after his 21-year-old brother mistook him for an intruder and shot him Saturday morning with a handgun.

Police said the man died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The younger man was apparently asleep and was startled when his brother came to the residence at about 5:45 a.m.

Two other adult males were in the residence at the time of the shooting.
