Rescuers searching Spokane River near Sullivan Road


Water rescue crews had to call off a search for a missing man on the Spokane River. The search focused on the stretch of river downstream from Sullivan Road.

Rescuers responded after reports of a person who was inner tubing with friends had disappeared.

Three people have drowned in the Inland Northwest in the last week.

August “A.J.” Marksworth, 16, died Friday after being pulled from an old mill pond at Spirit Lake on Wednesday, and Andy J. Anderson , 55, drowned Friday in the Spokane River in Post Falls at Corbin Park.

Also Friday, a 21-year-old man who was swimming in the Little Spokane River north of Long Lake in Stevens County went missing. His body was recovered Sunday in about 10 feet of water.
