Serena adds Bank of West to month’s haul
Tennis: Serena Williams overcame a shaky start and two service breaks to beat lucky loser Coco Vandeweghe 7-5, 6-3 on Sunday for her second straight Bank of the West Classic title in Stanford, Calif.
Eight days after winning Wimbledon, Williams saved a set point and won the final four games of the opening set. It was the 43rd WTA Tour championship of Williams’ career, tying older sister Venus for the most among active players.
It was the first all-American WTA final on home soil in eight years.

• Top-seeded John Isner won his second straight Hall of Fame Tennis Championships title in Newport, R.I.
The hard-serving Isner put on a performance similar to last year and defeated Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt 7-6 (1), 6-4.
• David Ferrer won his second Swedish Open title, defeating fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro 6-2, 6-2 at Bastad, Sweden.
• Marin Cilic became the first player from the home country in 22 years to win the Croatia Open by defeating Marcel Granollers of Spain 6-4, 6-2 in Umag, Croatia.
Knicks’ Kidd arrested on DWI charge
NBA: New York Knicks point guard Jason Kidd was arrested on a drunken-driving charge after police said he crashed his SUV into a telephone pole in the Hamptons on Sunday, days after signing with the Knicks.
Treated at a hospital for minor injuries after the crash, Kidd was arraigned on a misdemeanor driving-while-intoxicated charge and released without bail, Southampton Town police said.
Kidd, 39, was alone in the 2010 Cadillac Escalade when it hit a pole and veered into the woods around 2 a.m. in Water Mill, police said. Water Mill is a serene, mainly residential community east of Southampton Village.
• Timberwolves submit offer sheet for Batum: The Minnesota Timberwolves have submitted a four-year, $46 million offer sheet for restricted free agent Nicolas Batum.
The Portland Trail Blazers now have three days to match the offer or let him leave for Minnesota.
Brees passes physical, signs huge pact
Football: Drew Brees took some time out of his day to sign autographs on items ranging from a black jersey handed to him by a fan to a $100 million contract handed to him by the New Orleans Saints.
The star quarterback, who had agreed verbally to his historic deal Friday, visited team headquarters in Metairie, La., to take a physical and put pen to paper on the five-year contract that gives him the highest average annual pay ($20 million) in NFL history.
Brees then grabbed a sandwich to go at a Jimmy John’s sandwich shop he owns, where he posed for photos, shook hands and signed autographs for star-struck fans.
• Broncos’ Dumervil charged with aggravated assault: Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm in Florida.
Court records show the 28-year-old is facing the third-degree felony charge in Miami-Dade County.
