Man missing on river

From Staff Reports

Water rescue crews had to call off a search Monday night for a missing man on the Spokane River. The search had focused on the stretch of river downstream from Sullivan Road in Spokane Valley.

Rescuers responded after receiving reports that a person who was inner tubing with friends had disappeared.

Initial reports indicate the man is in his 20s and was not wearing a life jacket.

Rescue efforts were hampered by weather, including lightning.

Three people have drowned in the Inland Northwest in the past week.

August “A.J.” Marksworth, 16, died Friday after being pulled from an old mill pond at Spirit Lake in Idaho on Wednesday, and Andy J. Anderson, 55, drowned Friday in the Spokane River in Post Falls at Corbin Park.

Also Friday, a 21-year-old man who was swimming in the Little Spokane River north of Long Lake in Stevens County went missing. His body was recovered Sunday in about 10 feet of water.
