Of Fairfield, Washington, passed away July 15, 2012 in Spokane. Don was born January 10, 1934 in Spokane, Washington to John and Mary (Polensky) Hartmeier and was a graduate of Fairfield High School, class of 1953. After graduating, Don joined the 87th Airborne, stationed in North Carolina as camp cook and a paratrooper. He also worked as a machinist before moving to the Farm where he and his wife Margaret, farmed and raised their three boys Rick, Kevin and Kyle. His many hobbies included his daily trip to Fairfield for coffee with the girls, breakfast with the boys on Tuesdays, Friday night dinner with Margaret at the Harvester, fishing and working in his shop. He served on the Spokane County Weed Board, Fairfield Grain Growers/Co-Ag Board of Directors and the FFA/4H advisory board. Don also served on the Church Council for Holy Rosary Catholic Church for a number of years Don had a passion for people, but he especially loved the kids. Don is survived by his wife: Margaret at the home. Children: Rick (Joan), Kevin (Lila) and Kyle. Brothers: Mel (Paula), Bob (Marilyn) and his sister Betty Epperson (Jim). Grandchildren: Cody, Shasta, Malia and Grady. He was preceded in death by his sister Delores, and brothers Jack and Jerry. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Livestock Support Group, W. 1510 Wentworth RD., Rosalia, WA 99170. A Rosary will held Friday, July 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Rosalia, WA. A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Rosalia. A reception will follow at the Spangle Service Club, Spangle, WA. Private family interment will be at the Spangle Cemetery. SCHANZENBACH FUNERAL HOME, Fairfield, WA. in charge of arrangements.
