HESTON, Cornelia B.
“Connie”

Connie was born in Bend, Oregon on September 16, 1935.

She passed away on July 5, 2012.

She was the oldest child of Frances and Reuel O’Leary.

She grew up in the Bend area, and graduated from the local, public high school where she was valedictorian.

Connie attended Gonzaga University in Spokane, transferred to Marylhurst College in Portland and graduated summa cum laude.

She received her Master’s degree from Eastern Washington University and later spent a year studying at Oxford University on a Rotary Fellowship Foundation Scholarship.


The value Connie placed on knowledge was evident in her choice of career and her individual pursuits.

She taught school in Spokane’s School District 81 for 26 years.

She traveled extensively: visiting national parks, universities and museums throughout the country and world.

She was a volunteer docent at the Jundt Museum.

She loved the theater and was an active reader in reader’s theater for many years.

As an active member of the Evergreen State Volkssport Association, Connie completed 10k walks in forty-eight states and in nine provinces in Canada.


Most of all, Connie loved her family.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Alfred C. “Jerry” Heston, their four children, Elizabeth Merck and her husband Tim-Spokane, Al Heston-Port Orchard, Julia Younker and her husband Rod, Seattle, and Dr. Thomas Heston and his wife Mary-Kellogg, ID and her nine grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 10:00 am on July 21st.
