Our dear Kardie left us on a sunny afternoon on July 10.
Her family was with her when her courageous fight against multiple cancers ended.
She moved on with dignity and grace, which was her style.
She was born September 6, 1950 in Salt Lake City, UT to Grace Casper and Robert Hinnenkamp.
Kardie was passionate about life and shared this energy as a daughter, wife, mother and gifted teacher.
She was so extraordinary in many ways; an honored teacher and recipient of accolades and awards from students, teachers, and the community.
She was an adventurous person who loved the outdoors and travel.
She traveled with her young family to Norway to teach, work, and travel throughout Europe.
She backpacked and skied and even tried mountaineering.
Many a summers were spent on the family sailboat and camping.
As a gourmet cook she hosted many family events over the years.
Her style, grace, humor and intelligence will live on with all those honored to have shared her life.
Thanks must be given to the incredible staff of Dr. Steven Anthony and his staff at Evergreen Oncology and Hematology.
She was comfortable and hopeful throughout her illness because of their care.
She will never be forgotten by all who knew her.
Kardie is survived by her husband, Tom Ulvin, Spokane; daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, Ann, Matthew and Eleanor Grace Lowe, Arlington, VA; daughter, Katie Ulvin, Norwalk, CT; parents, Robert Hinnenkamp and Grace Casper; sister, Lisa Fortney; nieces, Allison Truitt, Rachel Fortney.
She is preceded in death by brother, Joseph Hinnenkamp.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10:00 am at Heritage Funeral Home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Karyl Ulvin Cancer Education Fund.
In honor of her dedication to education we have established a fund for medical students.
We will enable research and continuing education for those students with the intention of pursuing oncology.
The fund will be managed by the immediate family.
