lifelong Endicott farmer, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in Colfax.
He was 84.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 23rd at 10:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott.
Viewing will be for one hour prior to services.
Vault interment will follow at the Endicott Cemetery.
Jack was born August 3, 1927 in Spokane to Jacob and Mary (Smick) Schmick.
He grew up on the family farm at Endicott and graduated from high school there in 1944.
Jack met Betty Mae Brookfield through a mutual friend and the couple married September 1, 1946 in Endicott.
They began their lives working the farm with Jack’s parents and eventually took over the operation.
They raised their family on the farm which bordered the South city limits of Endicott.
Jack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and often sang at church and for many funerals.
He was a long time board member for the Wheat Growers of Endicott, loved trap shooting and the gun club, liked to play cards and take the occasional trip to Reno with Betty.
He was also a member of the Endicott Volunteer Fire Department.
He “retired” in 1990 at age 63 but could still be counted on to help the boys wherever it was needed.
He would still drive truck, run for parts, etc.
Always a farmer at heart, he loved to take drives and look at the crops.
He also liked to spend time at their cabin on Coeur d’Alene Lake.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty, at the family home; three children, Marv and Margaret Schmick of Endicott, Teresa “Terry” and Thomas John “T.J.” Sullivan of Lynnwood, WA and Randy and Kathy Schmick, Endicott; eight grandchildren, Andrea Thurston, Breanna Bergeron, Brandon, Jackson and Blaec Guptill, Cherie, Samantha and Shawn Schmick as well as one great-granddaughter, Kyla Thurston and his sister, Luella Allen of Eugene, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
