Romney rationale unconvincing
The fact is that many of my neighbors here in Spokane support Mitt Romney in the coming presidential election. I am curious. The two main reasons Romney gives for supporting him are that Barack Obama has been president while the leavings of the Great Recession continue, and that as a wealthy businessman he (Romney) would be better qualified to repair the country.
And yet Romney says that his leave of absence from Bain to volunteer for the Salt Lake Olympics, while still drawing a CEO salary from Bain, should exempt him from blame for the dealings of Bain. Further, the presidents who led us out of major wars and depressions were not businessmen (Washington, Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt).
Clearly, just being a rich businessman does not mean that you can be a good president. Herbert Hoover was rich and a successful businessman. The Great Depression started on his watch. George W. Bush is rich and a businessman. The Great Recession started on his watch.
If what Romney says does not show that he would be better for president, what does?
