WVHS Hall of Fame 2012 inductees

• Jeanne Banta Batson, class of 1939: Millwood’s only female mayor. The town’s arboretum is named for her.

• Marta Leichner-Boyce, class of 1972: chief of Human Resources Policies Division, International Civil Service Commission of the United Nations

• Steven Buck, class of 1944: professor emeritus of philosophy at California State University.

• Ted Esslinger, class of 1963: Holds a doctorate in botany from Duke University. One of the world’s leading experts on lichens.

• Mike Forness, class of 1974: Has a 30-year career in health care leadership. Raises funds and awareness for the Ronald McDonald House Children’s Charities.

• Gayle Hendrickson, class of 1957: former Air Force major and chief flight surgeon at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. Opened his own practice in St. Maries.

• Vern Johnson Massie, class of 1955: a record-breaking driver of the National Hot Rod Association’s West Coast Division. Holds eight NHRA records.

• Patricia Bautch McGuire, class of 1954: Worked in Washington, D.C., for more than 25 years, setting health care policies and health care reform in Congress.

• Neil Monney, class of 1957: U.S. Naval Academy graduate, consultant for Congress, National Academy of Science and National Academy of Engineering. Designed and built Jules Undersea Lodge in Key Largo, Fla., the world’s only undersea hotel.

• Jack Pring, class of 1948: local businessman for more than 55 years and a huge supporter of West Valley.

• Debra Williams Stephens, class of 1986: the first judge from Division Three of the Court of Appeals and the first woman from Eastern Washington appointed to the Washington State Supreme Court.

• Paul Bastine, class of 1957: a lawyer for 41 years, Peace Corps volunteer leader in Brazil and appointed by Gov. Mike Lowry to the Superior Court of Spokane County in 1995.
