Obamacare already good
There are many game-changing reasons to like the Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare). The most significant is that eventually most all Americans will be covered for essential health care, greatly affecting millions who now do not have health insurance.
Think of the better quality of life that will accrue to these fellow Americans. Is this not something we can all feel good about?
There are too many good features in this law to describe here, so I’ll touch on this large one. Heretofore, health insurance companies could pretty much charge what they wanted and spend policy income any way they wished. Remember the CEO of United Health Care who was paid $700 million over a recent five-year period? Now, insurance companies must spend at least 80 or 85 percent (depending on plan size) of income on patient care.
If they don’t they must rebate the difference to their policyholders. How’s that for fairness and consumer protection? The secretary of Health and Human Services has announced that 12.8 million Americans will receive $1.1 billion in rebates no later than Aug. 1.
See www.hhs.gov and click on the News tab. As you can see, this is only one example of how this law is already working for the benefit of Americans.
