SCHAEFER, John D.
(Age 77)
September 10, 1934 - July 19, 2012

John lived in his own private heaven on 45 acres in the hills of Newman Lake, Washington for the past 25 years.

He passed away unexpectedly July 19, 2012.

He was born in Lovell, Wyoming to Fred George Schaefer and Ethel Naomi Young Schaefer on September 10, 1934.

John was raised in Garden Springs, Washington, graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, and attended Eastern State College until he enlisted with the United States Marine Corp. John was employed by United Paving, Spokane County Road Department, and Wagstaff Inc. where he retired in 1999.



John was a loving family man who adored his family and was adored by his family.

He is survived by Mary Lou, the love of his life of 57 years; son Mike (Debbie), daughters: Valerie (Kenny) Kurtz, Ronda (Kevin) Miller, Jeannene (Jim) Schoenleber, and Ashley; all in the Spokane County area; 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister Maxine Neilson and brothers Bill, Joseph (Carmie), and Hank (June); and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was a sports enthusiast who loved to fish, hunt, and camp.

He played baseball from Little League through the Marine Corp.

He coached some of his children and grandchildren in baseball and softball.

John spent endless hours watching sporting events.

Viewing will be available Thursday July 26 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 South Pines, Spokane Valley WA.

Memorial Service will be July 27, 2012 at 10 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 21022 E. Wellesley, Otis Orchards, Washington.

Reception will follow at the church.
