PASCO – The Spokane Indians started the second half of the Northwest League baseball season on a positive note after a rough first half.
An error by Tri-City shortstop Rosell Herrera with the bases loaded allowed Patrick Cantwell to score in the top of the ninth inning, giving the Indians a 3-2 victory over the Dust Devils on Tuesday night.
Spokane, which finished with the worst record in the Northwest League (12-26) in the first half, took an early 2-0 lead. Royce Bolinger drove in a run in the first inning with his sixth double of the season, and Joe Maloney made it 2-0 with an RBI double in the second.
Francisco Sosa’s two-run double in the third tied the game at 2.
Cody Kendall (3-2) earned the win, throwing two scoreless innings in relief and lowering his ERA to 0.84. He allowed two hits, struck out three and walked two. Josh McElwee recorded his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
The Indians and Dust Devils play the second game of the three-game series tonight at 7:15.
