Of the 900 miles of powerlines managed by the Ferry County PUD, about 750 miles of line remained out of service on Monday, three days after storms and high winds toppled trees throughout the region.
A Cheney family of four weathered a wind storm in this concrete outhouse at 10 Mile Campground south of Republic on July 20, 2012 after their teenage son had been scraped by a falling tree, narrowly missing severe injury. Meanwhile, their tent and vehicles were smashed.
A big ponderosa pine along State Highway 21 north of Keller, Wash., was toppled by high winds that wreaked havoc with forests and powerlines throughout the area on July 20, 2012.

High winds on Friday (July 20, 2012) snapped off the tops of ponderosa pines along State Highway 21 between Keller and Republic. Ferry County PUD officials said Monday that virtually every powerline span in that 40-mile stretch of road was damaged.
