In brief: Church to offer free summer lunch

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Community of Christ Church will launch a free summer lunch program Tuesday to help fill the gap between the end of other summer lunch programs and the start of the school year. The free lunches are open to all community members.

The meals will be served Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. through Aug. 30. The church is at 11515 E. Broadway Ave. No registration is needed. Call (509) 535-2513 for more information.

Free dinner at Holy Trinity

SPOKANE VALLEY – Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host its monthly free community dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday. There will also be live music performed by a Kiwanis fiddlers group. The meal is open to everyone. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by 1 p.m. Tuesday by calling the church at (509) 926-7966. The church is at 2511 S. Pines Road.

Energy efficiency event planned

MILLWOOD – The SustainableWorks Millwood Energy Efficiency Kickoff will be on Wednesday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Crossing Millwood Community-Youth Center, 8919 E. Euclid Ave. The event will give West Valley and Millwood residents the opportunity to learn about the local nonprofit’s reduced-cost energy audits and home retrofits.

The purpose of the Community Energy Efficiency Program is to help homeowners and renters make home improvements that reduce their energy use and energy bills. Participants can save on items like furnaces, heat pumps, water heaters, insulation, weatherization and solar projects.

The program is funded through the state and is supported by the city of Millwood.
