Obituary: Streeter, Dorothy M.
Age 81
On July 25, 2012, our precious Dorothy passed away after extended illnesses.
She was born on March 13, 1931, to Homer and Hilda Pence of Cheney, WA.
She grew up on a farm just outside of Cheney.
It was a farmhand of her parents named Richard Streeter who stole her heart.
They were married in 1947 and had two children, Dr. Dick Streeter and Stacey (Streeter) Schneider.
Dorothy was a mother and wife, first and foremost - her children were the light of her life.
Prior to their starting a family, Dorothy worked as a nurse at Eastern State Hospital, and years later in 1978, she completed EMT training and worked with Cheney Ambulance where she cared deeply for her patients and they, in turn, felt comfort in the care she provided.
In approximately 1989, Dorothy accepted a position with Eastern Washington University’s telecommunications department as a telephone switchboard operator.
She was a “natural” in this position, as it was her nature and desire to be of service to others.
Co-workers and students alike appreciated her helpful demeanor.
There are no words to fully express how much Dorothy will be missed.
She loved people, and people likewise were drawn to her kind and compassionate nature.
While our hearts are aching from her passing, we are ever so grateful she is free from the pain and suffering she has endured over the past several years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Hilda Pence; stepfather, Clarence Brown, Hilda’s second husband; her husband, Richard, of 33 years; and her half-brother, Bill Pence.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Dr. Dick and Pat Streeter and Stacey and Dennis Schneider; a grandson, Tim Streeter; numerous stepgrandchildren; nephews, Ron (Marilyn) Pence, Gary (Sue) Pence, and Leland (Kathy) Lightbody; and a niece, Letha Banister.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club for the Blind, 1212 N. Howard, Spokane, WA 99201 as Dorothy feared blindness and was passionate about this foundation.
She appreciated all the worthwhile acts the Lions Club performed for others.
In addition, contributions may be made to Providence St. Joseph Care Center, 17 E. 8th, Spokane, WA 99202.
Dorothy’s family would like to take this opportunity to thank Providence St. Joseph Care Center for their wonderful and compassionate care provided her the past 3Ă‚Ë?
years.
We would also like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center’s nurses and physicians and, at the very end of Dorothy’s life, the CICU department’s nurses and physicians who showed true caring and compassion at the time of our great loss.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Cheney Funeral Chapel, and a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2012.
Private family interment will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
