NRA goes too far

I just got a message on my phone from the National Rifle Association. They wanted to know if I thought it was right to have the United Nations on our soil when they want to keep American citizens from having citizen guns to protect their homes. There was a number to call if I had questions.

I called the number; a man answered, “NRA.” I asked him what was meant by a citizen gun. Did it mean a handgun and a few bullets? When pressed, he answered that it could mean a semi-automatic gun, with an unlimited amount of ammunition.

I asked whom I was protecting my home from, that I needed so much firepower. He told me the Constitution gives us the right to protect ourselves from the government. Did he mean the police department? (They are the only ones coming to home with guns.) He said, “Yes.”

I said the NRA needs to tell us that is what they mean.

I admit sometimes the police department makes errors, and some police officers are rogues, but certainly the police are not so evil that we need to protect ourselves in this way.
