Janet was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to Charles and Margaret Horchler. She attended Butler (Pennsylvania) High School and received an associate degree from Robert Morris Business School in Pittsburgh. She later worked in the administrative offices of Pennsylvania State University where she met her future husband. On April 18, 1953, Janet married Harry P. Calhoun in San Antonio, Texas, and became an Air Force wife. Janet and Harry lived in many states and in Okinawa. Janet was active in the Officers Wives Club and was an avid duplicate bridge player wherever they were stationed. She and Harry fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and retired in 1975 to Clear Lake, Washington. Janet was known for her devilish sense of humor and her love of casinos. Janet passed away July 23, 2012 after one week at Hospice House. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grand- mother and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her husband of 59 years, Harry Calhoun; her children, Charles (Susan) Calhoun and Sara (Hubert) Hunchak; and her granddaughters, Lauren and Larissa Calhoun and Jessie (Jeremiah) Quintero Johnson; and her great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Cecilia Quintero Johnson. Services will be held at a future date. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
