Obituary: Ferris, Douglas Wright

Age 78

FERRIS,
Douglas
Wright
(Age 78)

Died July 24, 2012 at home in Spokane.

Doug was born September 6, 1933 in Portland, Oregon to Helen Eliot Ferris and Arden Clarence Ferris.

The family moved to Santa Clara, California when Doug was 12.

At 17, he followed his brother, Bill, into the United States Navy and served honorably as an Electrician Mate Fireman for three years aboard the USS Edmonds (DE-406).

Between deployments to the Korean Peninsula during the Korean War, home port in Pearl Harbor, and patrolling the Caroline and Mariana Islands, Doug fulfilled a boyhood dream of seeing the world.

Doug took his skills as an electrician back to the Santa Clara area where he worked for a time at IBM before moving to Lake Washington to work for Boeing.

Boeing moved him to Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1960 to support the early rocket programs at Cape Canaveral.

Two years later, Doug returned to California and in 1964 began a 38 year career as a senior technician at Hewlett-Packard.

Doug was an extremely hard worker, who somehow found time for his vegetable gardens, orchards, lifelong love of cars, and family history and genealogy.

Doug is survived by his wife Jean Marie Pacheco Ferris of Spokane, Washington; son Douglas “Rich” Reeder of Fayetteville, Alabama; daughter Valerie Clift of San Jose, California; sons Craig Ferris of Spokane and Brad Ferris of Huntington Beach, California; stepdaughter, Shannon Kirck of Santa Clara, California; 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Janis Ann Ferris and brother Arden “Bill” Ferris.

Doug was a loving husband, father, and friend who will be greatly missed by those lucky enough to have known him.
