Obituary: Ashby, Toyoko


ASHBY, Toyoko

Toyoko “Terry” Hosomi Ashby, age 82 of Spokane, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2012.

Toyoko was born to her parents Shoshichi and Hanako Hosomi in Ikeda-City Osaka, Japan on February 23, 1930.

She was the oldest of five children: three brothers, Hiroshi, Tadashi and Takahiro and one sister, Toshiko Tabata.

In 1959, she married Roth H. Ashby of Lorain, Ohio.

The couple met while Roth was serving in the Air Force and stationed in Japan.

Toyoko became a United States Citizen in 1965.

In 1970, she and Roth made Spokane their home where they raised their family of two children and two grandchildren.

Toyoko was a strong, loyal and resourceful wife and mother who loved and lived for her family.



She is survived by her husband of 53 years, her two children, Terrie Ashby-Scott of Spokane and Frank Ashby of Seattle and his partner, Rebecca Hartzler and her two granddaughters, Rachel Scott and Jessica Scott also of Spokane and all of her siblings still living in Japan.

Her parents preceded her in death.



A private family remembrance has been held to celebrate her life.
