Cougars’ Ard, Jones selected

Two Washington State Cougars were selected on the second day of the MLB first-year player draft.

Seattle selected first baseman Taylor Ard in the seventh round and Colorado picked outfielder Derek Jones in the eighth round Tuesday.

Ard, a redshirt junior from Vancouver, Wash., was drafted for the third time – the Marlins picked him in 2010 and the Red Sox selected him last year. He led the Cougars with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs this season.

Jones, a senior from Snohomish, Wash., was chosen by the Orioles last season. He is the WSU career leader in home runs with 41.
