Body found in Spokane River

The body of a man was found in the Spokane River this afternoon, and police said it appears to be a man who was reportedly distraught on Saturday evening. The discovery was made about 1 p.m. by the man’s girlfriend after the man went missing on Saturday night, police said. The woman went to the river to look for him and found his clothing at the base of the steep embankment near the 2000 block of South Riverton Ave. She looked downstream and saw the body tangled in heavy brush about 30 feet downstream, police said. The woman told officers the clothing belonged to her boyfriend. Spokane police detectives were called to investigate the case.
