Obituary: Colbert, Wanita Leona

Age 79

Wanita Leona

Passed away after a 40 year fight with MS on June 7, 2012 at Republic, WA.

“Mom” was born in Spokane on August 26, 1932 to Leo M. Bolser and Wanda (Wilson) Bolser.

At age 11 she, along with her two brothers, moved to Pontiac Ridge, WA to live with their aunt Estella Greer.

Wanita grew up in a log house, nestled among the tall trees, with blue skies and fresh air to help shake off the darkness and pain of WWII and the “Spokane of the Great Depression”.

She attended school at Molson, WA graduating high school in 1950.
In the fall of that year she married “Dad” (Marvin F. “Hungry” Colbert), a rancher and logger from Chesaw, WA.

Together they raised
three children (us) there.

The last five years of Dad’s life were shared with mom in the same room at the Ferry County Hospital Extended Care in Republic, WA.

Upon his death in 2002 they had been married just short of 52 years.
Mom was a very hard working, crafty lady who possessed many talents and was skilled in all she did.

What she could do with flour and a stove was “Art”; that lady could really cook.

Her bread was the desire of all the community potlucks, and me-oh-my could our “Momma” bake pies.

She also was a great singer.

When we were small we didn’t need “no radio”, we had Mom to sing all the golden oldies of the ‘40s and ‘50s.

Now our Mom has gone to sing with the angels, and teach them something about angel food cake too!
She was preceded in death by Dad, her parents, her aunt Estella, her brother Carol Bolser, and her great-grandbabies Jack and Ella Pearcy.

She will be missed by her brother Stan Bolser of Oroville, WA, several half-brothers and sisters; her son Lonny (Judy) Colbert of Spokane; her daughter Marna (Clark) Friend of Republic, WA; her son Chris (Peggy) Colbert of Chesaw WA; her grandson Matthew (Amber) Colbert of Las Vegas, NV; grandson Nicholas Colbert of Spokane; granddaughter Melissa (Dean) Pearcy and their son (great-grandson) Gavin Pearcy of Spokane; granddaughter Mary Friend and her sons(great-grandsons) Alex Curry, Devon Curry, Benjamin Morgan and Matthew Morgan of Spokane.
Graveside services and Interment will be held at Tunk Valley Commentary, east of Riverside, Okanogan Co., WA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MS Inland NW Chapter.
PRECHT-HARRISON-NEARENTS CHAPEL, Okanogan, WA is in charge of arrangements.
