SHAPIRO-OWENS, Joan Ruth
Joan Owens passed away on May 24, 2012. She was born July 8, 1936, in Buffalo, N.Y. to Solomon David Samual Shapiro of Zwonitz, Russia, and Luella Virginia Mesell-Shapiro of Garrott, Indiana.
Joan was honorably discharged from the WAC in 1957. She traveled and lived with her military husband in Europe and several locations in the USA. She was energetic and worked in various professions, including office supervisory positions, and General Contractor. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald A. Owens who died in 1997, in Spokane. Joan lived and worked in Spokane, from 1984 to 1998 when upon retiring she traveled throughout the USA in her RV, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and settling in N. CA, working in the RV Resort profession for the past eight years.
She is survived by her daughter Rene’ Owens-Harris, son-in-law Frank, and son Kenneth Owens, of Spokane, WA. Grandchildren, Anthony Owens, Brianna Powell, Joseph Jones, Donielle Owens and Jonathon Owens and one great-grandchild Michaela all of Spokane. She leaves no other living relatives, other than a close family of two Owens’ brothers and sisters-in-law.
The graveside services at Belcrest Memorial Cemetery in Salem will be held on June 30, 2012, at 1:00 PM. Interment will be next to her husband at Belcrest Cemetery in Salem, OR.
