Age 78


CROWLEY, Edward “John” Jr.

Born to Edward and Frances Crowley in Seattle, Washington July 10, 1933.

Passed away in Spokane, Washington on June 9, 2012.

He moved to Spokane as a boy and attended St. Augustine’s and Gonzaga Prep.

He served in and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army near the end of the Korean War.

He returned to Spokane and attended Gonzaga University.

After earning his law degree, he established a private practice.

He worked as the attorney to Lieutenant Governor John Cherberg.

He had a passion for horse racing.

After a stint as an owner/breeder, he worked as a steward for the Washington Horse Racing Commission, ultimately appointed by the governor to be the Executive Secretary of the Racing Commission.

He taught law school classes at Gonzaga University.
He retired at an early age from his appointed state position to pursue his passions for travel and golf.

He partnered up in a travel agency with his sister and traveled throughout Central and South America, and all over Asia.

He loved to regale people with stories of his travel adventures.
Aside from travel, John enjoyed taking on Bloomsday when his health allowed.

He often talked about playing tennis at Comstock Park as a boy and working as a lifeguard with his sister at the public pools in the Spokane Valley.

He had a passion for fantasy football and would watch three to four NFL games simultaneously when he could manage it.
John is survived by his five children Colleen Eilbert (Rich), San Jose, Katherine ‘Kaki’ Crowley, Poulsbo, JJ Crowley (Leslee), Willow Creek, Mike Crowley (Kay), Spokane, and Charlie Crowley, Spokane; his sister Kay Gray; and 11 grandchildren: Charlotte, Libby, Dutton, Holly, Mekdes, Melese, Ginger, Jeremy, John, Ben and Rosalind.

He is also survived by beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and Jane E. Crowley, the mother of his children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frances Crowley.
Vigil services will be Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 5pm and will take place at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 11am and will be celebrated at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 428 W. 19th, Spokane with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Rockford, WA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Spokane Veteran’s Home.
