Arrested A Temple University basketball player is apologizing to his family and team following his arrest on prostitution and resisting arrest charges in Atlantic City, N.J. Khalif Wyatt issued a statement in which he says he was celebrating his 21st birthday on Sunday and “exercised very poor judgment.” The senior guard was among seven men and 16 women arrested during a two-day sweep that targeted suspected prostitutes and their clients.
Announced NASCAR driver Kurt Busch will return to Phoenix Racing when his one-week suspension ends today. Busch met Tuesday with team owner James Finch, and the duo agreed to move forward to this weekend’s race at Michigan International Speedway. Busch’s status with Finch seemed shaky following his one-week suspension for verbally abusing a media member. Finch indicated in several interviews his patience was being tested by the 2004 NASCAR champion. Busch landed with Phoenix Racing in December after parting ways from Penske Racing because of a series of incidents mainly related to Busch’s temper.
Missed IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard acknowledged that technicians missed the illegal parts on the car Justin Wilson used to win at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend. Wilson was docked five points by IndyCar and Dale Coyne Racing was fined $7,500 for failing an inspection after the race. IndyCar says that Wilson’s car had unapproved pieces of bodywork fitted to its sidepods.
Retired Philadelphia Flyers forward Ian Laperriere retired from the NHL, more than two years after playing his last game. Laperriere sat out the past two seasons because of post-concussion syndrome resulting from getting hit in the right eye with a puck during the 2010 playoffs. He officially retired because his contract expired and he was able to come off the salary cap. He spent the past two seasons mentoring draft picks and prospects.
Signed Nebraska women’s basketball coach Connie Yori received a two-year contract extension through 2017. The Cornhuskers went 24-9, including 10-6 in their first year in the Big Ten, and advanced to the championship game of the conference tournament.
