COFFMAN, Floyd
Floyd Raymond Coffman, 85, passed away in Othello on June 6, 2012 with his children by his side.
He was born on November 5, 1926 in Baker, Montana to Henry Martin and Burmah Etta Mae (Billings) Coffman.
He grew up in Orting, WA then moved to Kittitas and later to Seattle.
He worked at Webster Brinkley as a machinist.
He served as a Corporal in the Army as an infantry instructor and was discharged in 1946.
He graduated from Broadway Edison in Seattle and attended University of Washington.
Floyd began his farming career in Prosser and on March 17, 1951 he married Helen Kristine Norberg.
They homesteaded in Moses Lake and farmed in Block 40.
In 1955, they moved to Othello where Floyd and Helen cleared a unit and continued farming.
In winters, he worked at U & I, in construction on the Wahluke Siphon, Western Farmers and Boeing.
He was a manager at Cenex and retired from Simplot.
Floyd loved living in Othello and was actively involved in the community.
He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, Past Master of Paul Revere Lodge #205 and held several Masonic Grand Lodge offices.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite, El Katif Shrine and Past President of Big Bend Shrine Club, and a 50 year member of Sojourners.
He served on the Othello Housing Authority for 41 years, Habitat for Humanity, Othello Museum Board, and Coulee Corridor Consortium.
Floyd loved to go fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, traveling and enjoyed attending sporting events.
He always had a funny joke or a good story to tell with a great smile to go with them.
Most of all he loved vacationing and spending time with his family.
He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
He touched so many lives in so many ways.
He never hesitated to be there to help others and dedicated his life to community service.
Helen, his wife of 50 years, brothers, Harry, Charles, John (Roy), Harold, Glen, sister, Neva and son-in- law, Ken Boni preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Martin Coffman of Othello, Janet Widman (Mike Eisele) of Walla Walla, Connie Boni of Hayden Lake, ID, and Judy (Bob) Melton of Yakima, sister Burmah Danielson of Wenatchee, grandchildren Shelbie, Jeffrey, Matthew, Amy, Jason, Jami, Joel and Tanya and 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his special angels at the Coventry House.
A celebration of Floyd’s life will be held on Friday, June 15 at 10:00 AM, at The First Presbyterian Church of Othello.
Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Chapel.
