Anita Lois (May)

Born March 13, 1930, in Lewiston, ID, to Ted and Iva May, Anita Lois (May) Hooper passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, in Spokane.

She was 82.
She graduated in 1948 from Lewiston High School and later, Lewis-Clark State College.

She married her beloved E. Vern Hooper in 1950 and taught school in Mullan, ID, while he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Known to her friends as a character, with a dry and wicked sense of humor, Anita loved gardening and museums.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield, WA.

Anita lived for many years in LaGrande, OR, where she graduated from, what was then, Eastern Oregon State College, with an education degree.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi social and cultural service organization and the American Association of University Women.
In 1975, the Hoopers moved to Fairfield, WA, where she was active in the Southeast Spokane County Historical Society and Museum.

The museum became a lifelong love and she loved to show it off to visitors to the annual Flag Day parade in Fairfield.

In recent years she lived in Spokane, becoming an ardent Gonzaga basketball fan and member of the Lincoln Heights Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern.

She is survived by her daughters, Eve (Bill) Morgan and Amy (John) Wiley; grandchildren, John and Shannon Wiley; brother, Sam (Linda) May; numerous nephews and nieces as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at NorthPointe MBK Senior Living, particularly those at Cedar Cottage, for taking such good care of Anita during the past year.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Anita’s life will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 15, 2012, at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. Monroe St .

in Spokane.

Interment at a later date at the Pullman Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Southeast Spokane County Historical Society and Museum, P.O.
