Solicitors without licenses arrested in Liberty Lake

The Liberty Lake Police Department has been cracking down on people going door to door to sell everything from magazine subscriptions to home security systems. Selling items door to door requires a business license. Officers arrested six people during the week of June 4-11 on a charge of soliciting without a license.

Those arrested were residents of Missouri and Texas. Police arrested a woman selling magazine subscriptions in the 23000 block of East Settler Drive at 2:30 p.m. on June 4. Just 30 minutes later, officers arrested two men in the 1900 block of Forest Ridge Street who also were selling subscriptions, said Police Chief Brian Asmus.

A woman in the 19000 block of East Maxwell Drive called police at 2:30 p.m. on June 5 to report that a man trying to sell her cleaning solution was aggresive and she thought he was trying to get into her home, Asmus said. Police arrested a man from Beaumont, Texas.

A resident of Texas was also arrested at 3:30 p.m. on June 6 in the 700 block of North Homestead Drive after a resident called police. He was trying to sell security systems, Asmus said. Later that evening police arrested another man in the 1900 block of North Aladdin Road who was also reportedly trying to sell security systems.

Police have also responded to calls involving guns in recent days, though none were in the city limits. A Liberty Lake officer responded to help Spokane Valley police and the Spokane County deputies after a reported shooting in the 18200 block of East Appleway Avenue at 11:30 p.m. on June 6. The Liberty Lake officer located the suspect’s car in the 18000 block of East Sprague Avenue. The suspect was arrested and turned over to Spokane Valley police, Asmus said.

In another gun-related call, a Liberty Lake officer responded to a report of a camper holding another man at gunpoint in the 1900 block of South Zephyr Road at 2:40 a.m. on May 31. The camper told police that he had found the man prowling around his campsite, Asmus said. The suspected prowler was turned over to Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies.

There were only two arrests for driving with a suspended license during the week, down from the nine arrests on the same charge during the previous week.
