From Wire Reports

Jason Bay is back on the disabled list with his second concussion in two years.

The New York Mets placed their oft-injured left fielder on baseball’s seven-day DL for concussions Saturday and activated infielder Justin Turner from the 15-day disabled list.

After missing six weeks this season with a broken rib, Bay was hurt again Friday night when he crashed into the outfield wall while trying to catch Jay Bruce’s inside-the-park home run for the Cincinnati Reds.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Bay has been told to stay home and rest for a couple of days until he’s examined by doctors. Collins isn’t sure how long Bay, a former Gonzaga University and North Idaho College player, will be sidelined but expects it to be more than seven days.

Bay missed the final two months of the 2010 season with a concussion he sustained slamming into the left-field fence to make a catch at Dodger Stadium.

“I’m very worried about it because Jason’s first one was pretty severe and he hit the wall pretty hard yesterday,” Collins said. “He’s pretty sore today. Real sore. So we’re just going to have to, again, bide our time and see how he comes out of it in the next few days and see how he feels.”

Beckett on shelf

The Boston Red Sox put ace Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list because of inflammation in his right shoulder.

Manager Bobby Valentine said before the game against the Chicago Cubs that the Red Sox are “going to take the conservative route.”

Beckett, who is 4-7 with a 4.14 ERA in 12 starts this year, was scheduled to start today.

Clearing the bases

Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton has been released from the hospital after becoming dehydrated because of an intestinal virus. The Rangers said Hamilton was home resting. Hamilton is expected to work out at the ballpark today and accompany the team to San Diego for a series that starts Monday. … The Toronto Blue Jays placed rookie right-hander Drew Hutchison on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained right elbow.
