Shine move into first

Playing their second road match within 17 hours, the Spokane Shine secured a scoreless draw with Emerald City in Seattle on Saturday and took a one-point lead atop of the Northwest Division in the Women’s Premier Soccer League. The Shine (2-1-2, 8 points) were coming off a 1-0 win at Issaquah on Friday as they took on a fresh Emerald City squad at Nathan Hale HS. “We were really tired and just looking to defend,” coach Jason Quintero said. “We just sat in our end and waited to counterattack.” Stephanie Busch had four saves for Spokane, which will be host to Portland at Joe Albi Stadium at 3 p.m. Saturday.
