Area roundup: Gonzaga’s Kliebphipat wins at Publinx

Gonzaga University’s Tai Jade Kliebphipat upset 22nd-seeded Gabriella Dominguez of Chilton, Texas, 4 and 3 during Wednesday’s opening round of match play at the 36th Women’s Amateur Public Links at Neshanic (N.J.) Valley Golf Course.

Kliebphipat, seeded 43rd after stroke play, will meet 54th-seeded Jennifer Yang of Korea today. Kliebphipat and Dominguez were tied after 12 holes, but the Bulldog won four of the next five holes.

GU’s Victoria Fallgren lost to Tiffany Lua of Rowland Hills, Calif., 3 and 2.

Idaho’s Leilanie Kim lost 2 and 1 to Kelly Shon of Flushing, N.Y.

• Idaho’s Kaitlyn Oster defeated Sara Molyneaux of Vancouver, Wash., 2 and 1 at the 103rd Oregon Women’s State Amateur at Tualatin. Oster led by five holes before Molyneaux heated up on the back and nine and forced the match through 17 holes.

In men’s play, Gonzaga’s Travis Johnsen won his opening match, defeating Justin Wiles of Klamath Falls, Ore., 2 and 1.
