Indians blow five-run lead

EVERETT – The Spokane Indians blew a five-run lead and a sterling start from Jose Valdespina, eventually falling to the Everett AquaSox 7-6 in 10 innings on Thursday night in Northwest League baseball action.
Valdespina allowed just three hits and two walks in five innings, leaving with a 5-0 lead before disaster struck.

Valdespina allowed just three hits and two walks in five innings, leaving with a 5-0 lead before disaster struck.

Cam Schiller got the Indians off and running in the top of a five-run fifth inning when he reached base on an infield single with one out. Gabriel Roa singled to right to move Schiller to third. Guy Edmonds fanned for the second out of the inning, but Smerling Lantigua drilled a double to left field to plate both runners. Christopher Garia singled home Lantigua to put the Indians (1-6) up 3-0. Nick Urbanus followed with a double and Preston Beck singled to left to push across two more runs and up the lead to 5-0.

But Everett (5-2) bounced back, scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to pull within one run.

Spokane added a run in the eighth on a Ryan Rua RBI double, but Everett scored two in the ninth and the winner in the tenth all off reliever Cody Kendall (0-1) although only one run was earned.

Four Indians errors led to five unearned runs.
