Obituary: Hancock, Janet Ann (Seslar)

Age 70

HANCOCK, Janet Ann (Seslar)
(Age 70)

Went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 18th, 2012, after fighting a courageous battle against cancer.

Janet was born on Pearl Harbor Day—December 7th, 1941 in Bridgeport, Nebraska.

She spent most of her childhood in Cheyenne, Wyoming and moved to Cheney, Washington in 1969.

Janet was a loving mother, sister and grandmother.

Janet enjoyed flowers, gardening, television game shows, sewing, quilting, baking, bowling, swimming and solving puzzles.

Her favorite times of the year were all of the holidays.

Janet graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1990.

She was employed at Eastern Washington University as an administrative assistant and retired in 2005.

She enjoyed the sisterhood and friendships that her membership in Beta Sigma Phi brought her.

She also was involved in Eastern Star and AAUW and was a member of Cheney’s United Church of Christ.

Her sense of humor was one of her finest characteristics and she loved making people laugh with her funny jokes, dramatic acts, and funny faces.

She enjoyed waking her kids up every December 7th with Franklin Roosevelt’s declaration of war as it played on a local radio station.

Janet was very generous and cared so much for those in need.

She started a Cheney Clothing Bank in her basement in the late 70’s and always donated to families in need at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

She instilled in others the importance of giving.

Janet is survived by her children, Craig (Darla) Hancock, Doug (Debi) Hancock, Leigh Hancock, Jana (Don) Russell and Joe (Lisa) Hancock; her eight grandchildren, her numerous friends, and her beloved dog Riley and cat Max.

A Celebration of Janet’s Life will take place on Saturday, June 23, at 11am at Cheney’s United Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Spokane or SCRAPS of Spokane County.
