Recovery of ranger’s body delayed

SEATTLE – Mount Rainier National Park rangers are waiting for better weather on the Washington peak to recover the body of a colleague who died while rescuing four injured climbers.

Park spokesman Kevin Bacher said a helicopter was on standby should the weather break enough for a flight.

Bacher said four rangers were also climbing toward the spot where Nick Hall’s body came to a rest following a 2,600-foot slide. Hall died Thursday after helping four climbers from Texas who fell near the 14,411-foot mountain’s peak.

Three of those climbers are in the hospital; a fourth was able to hike off the mountain Friday.
