Passed away peacefully in Escondido, CA on May 2, 2012, soon after celebrating her 92nd birthday.

She was born Sandra Anne Whiting in Portland, OR, to Dr. Sanford and Mary Edwards Whiting, on March 26, 1920.

Sandra grew up in Portland and Seattle, attending Holy Names and graduating from Garfield High in Seattle.

She attended the University of Washington, where she graduated with a BA degree in English at the age of 20.

During World War II she volunteered with the Red Cross, serving overseas in the Philippines.

After the war she returned to Seattle, where she married Ben G. Stone in January 1950.

The family moved to Spokane when Ben Stone decided to open his own business, Spokane Culvert and Fabricating Co., in 1954.

In 1979, she moved to the San Diego area.

Sandra is survived by three children: Ben Stone Jr. of Santa Rosa, CA, Mary Stone Holford of San JosĂŠ, CA, and Lawrence B.

In addition, she is survived by three grandchildren - Thomas, Laura, and Lawrence Holford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandra will be remembered for her passion for bridge, reading, animals of all sorts, and music.

The family wishes to thank the kind and attentive staff at Silverado Senior Living in Escondido.

At Sandra’s request, no services will be held.

She will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery, Walla Walla, WA.
