In brief: Chiefs select Czech Republic’s Rimmel in import draft

Junior hockey: The Spokane Chiefs picked Mikulas Rimmel with the 41st overall selection in Wednesday’s Canadian Hockey League import draft.

Rimmel, a 17-year-old forward from the Czech Republic, scored 11 goals and had 29 points in 38 games last season for his under-18 team last season.

“He is a young player and will have the chance to develop with our organization,” Chiefs general manager Tim Speltz said.

Four of the Chiefs’ last six import picks have played three seasons in the Western Hockey League.

The Chiefs also released their 2012-13 regular season schedule. They will play 26 of their 36 home games on the weekend, including 15 Saturday night games.

The season opens on Sept. 22 at Tri-City, and Spokane’s home opener is on Sept. 29, when the Americans visit the Arena.

Tickets for individual games will go on sale to the public on Sept. 6. Ticket packages are on sale now at the Chiefs office.

Prugh qualifies for PGA tourney

Golf: Corey Prugh, an assistant pro at Manito Golf and Country Club, has earned a spot in the PGA Championship.

Prugh shot a final-round 72 at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, Calif., and finished at 1-under 287, tying for seventh place at the PGA Professional National Championship. The top 20 secured spots in the 94th PGA Championship, Aug. 9-12 at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.

Prugh had three birdies and three bogies in his final round.

Matt Dobyns, pro at Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success, N.Y., won the tournament by eight strokes, earning $75,000, a spot in the PGA Championship and six PGA Tour exemptions over a 12-month period.
