In brief: Auditions will be held Tuesday for student-directed plays

SPOKANE VALLEY – Theater Arts for Children, 2114 N. Pines Road, will hold auditions for three student-directed, one-act plays on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

The shows to be cast are “After Hours,” “Bottle of Joy” and “Unhappily Ever After.” Performances will be Aug. 3-5.

Volunteer delivery drivers sought for countywide Meals on Wheels

SPOKANE COUNTY – Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels is in need of volunteer delivery drivers.

Meals on Wheels delivers more than 400 meals every day to homebound seniors and disabled neighbors throughout Spokane County and currently has 26 open routes every week.

Libraries summer reading program to feature drumming concerts

SPOKANE COUNTY – During July, Spokane Public Libraries will host “Drums!” by Spokane Taiko. The group is a drum ensemble, or kumi-daiko, performing the art of Japanese drumming.

The performances are part of the Dream Big Read program, presented in connection with the library’s Summer Reading program, appropriate for school-age children. Performances will be at the West Central Community Center, 1603 N. Belt St., on Tuesday at 10 a.m.; the Shadle Library, 2111 W. Wellesley Ave., on Tuesday at 2 and 3:30 p.m.; the Hillyard Library, 4005 N. Cook St.; on July 5 at 3 p.m.; the downtown Library, 906 W. Main Ave., on July 6 at 2 p.m.; the East Side Library, 524 S. Stone St., on July 10 at 3 p.m.; the South Hill Library, 3324 S. Perry St., on July 11 at 2 and 3:30 p.m.; and the Indian Trail Library, 4909 W. Barnes Road, on July 18 at 3 p.m.
