Nominated USA Boxing nominated a coaching staff for the London Olympics just one month before the games begin. Basheer Abdullah is expected to be the Americans’ head coach in London, USA Boxing proposed Wednesday. Abdullah coached the U.S. team at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

Traded The Washington Capitals traded All-Star defenseman Dennis Wideman to the Calgary Flames for a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NHL draft and minor league defenseman Jordan Henry. Wideman was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on Sunday, but agreed to a five-year contract with Calgary .

Promoted The Edmonton Oilers promoted assistant Ralph Krueger to head coach. Krueger spent the last two seasons as an assistant under Tom Renney, whose contract was not renewed after the Oilers finished 29th in the NHL last season at 32-40-10.

Selected U.S. captain Davis Love III selected a pair of longtime friends, Fred Couples and Mike Hulbert, as his assistants for the Ryder Cup, Sept. 28-30.

Agreed The St. Louis Blues and coach Ken Hitchcock, who led the team to its first playoff series win in a decade last season, agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2013-14 season with a mutual option for 2014-15.

Died Former NBA player Pat Cummings, who played with five teams over a 12-year career after being selected Metro Conference Player of the Year at Cincinnati, was found dead in a New York apartment, according to police. He was 55.

• Former NFL executive Eddie Jones, who spent 10 years as president of the Miami Dolphins, has died. He was 74. Jones joined the Dolphins as vice president of administration and finance in 1988 before becoming executive vice president and general manager in 1990.

Pleaded Arkansas football players Marquel Wade, Maudrecus Humphrey and Andrew Peterson pleaded not guilty to felony charges tied to the burglary of their fellow students’ room.
