Indians commit nine errors in loss to Boise

BOISE – The Spokane Indians committed 24 errors in getting off to a 1-8 start in the Northwest League, but then improved to just eight miscues in winning five of their last six games.

They took a detour Saturday night on the road at Boise.

The Indians committed nine errors, two short of the Northwest League record, in a 12-6 loss to the Hawks.

The errors led to six unearned runs that blunted an 11-hit performance on offense, including two hits apiece by Christopher Garia, Ryan Rua and Barrett Serrato. Serrato had two RBIs.

The errors were spread out among six Indians, including three by second baseman Nick Vickerson and two by third baseman Rua. Yet, the Indians turned three double plays.

Spokane came up with five runs in the third inning to erase a 2-0 Boise lead. Patrick Cantwell doubled to lead off, Vickerson drove him in with a single and came home on a one-out double by Preston Beck. Rua singled to bring in Gabriel Roa, who had been hit by a pitch, and scored along with Beck on Serrato’s double.

That lead lasted only until the fourth when Boise scored four runs with the help of three errors to go ahead for good.

Starter Eric Brooks (0-1) took the loss, giving up five runs, three earned, on six hits in 31/3 innings.

Jeimer Candelario and Bijan Rademacher led the Hawks’ 15-hit attack with three hits each.
