Chris Williams claimed his third victories in two days at the Palmer Cup intercollegiate golf tournament on Friday in Newcastle, Country Down in Northern Ireland to help Team USA to a 10-6 lead in the event that concludes today.
Williams, from Moscow, Idaho, defeated Europe player Graeme Robertson 3 and 2 in their singles match. The University of Washington golfer will play Sebastian Cappelen in today’s final round of play.
Washington State first baseman Taylor Ard and outfielder Derek Jones were chosen to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-West Region Team.
Ard, now playing for the Northwest League’s Everett AquaSox, was chosen to the first team after hitting .332, including 12 home runs and 50 RBIs.
Jones, on the second team, hit .335 with 17 doubles and nine home runs. He is the Cougars’ career record holder for home runs with 41. He is playing for the Tri-City Dust Devils, also in the NWL.
