BETTINGER, Donald Paul
(Age 97)

Passed away February 27, 2012 in Spokane Valley, WA.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was born in Farmington, MN on November 3, 1914.

The family moved to Ryegate, MT when he was a young boy where he spent his school years, graduating from Ryegate High School in 1933.
Donald started his working years on the Fort Peak Dam Project.

He moved to Spokane to work at the Naval Supply Depot during WWII and took classes in the construction field.

Donald worked as a commercial and residential building contractor in Spokane, Libby, MT and Billings, MT.

His final work project was the extensive expansion of the Yellowstone Boys Ranch in Billings.

Upon retirement, Donald moved back to Spokane to be nearer to his children.
He enjoyed stepping forward to help many people with their building projects.

He would fix the way a door hung during a visit to dinner.

Donald enjoyed many years as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

He also enjoyed his trips to Israel, Italy, France, Australia, New Zealand and China.

Donald was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.


Donald was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia McClarren Bettinger (1982) and his second wife, Icie Bowles Bettinger (2011); a son, James Del Bettinger, D.D.S.

; parents, John and Theresa Bettinger; brother, John Bettinger and his sisters, Helen Fochs and Rose Lammers.

He is survived by three children, Dona C. Weber of Auburn, WA, Carol L. Koontz of Spokane Valley and Paul G. (Carol) Bettinger of Newman Lake, WA; step-daughter, NancyLu (Robert) Roberts and family of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren, Dawn Marie (Abel Joyas) Weber of Keams Canyon, AZ, Carl G. (Asma, M.D.)

(Maria) Weber, PhD of Seattle, WA, Daniel A.

(Teri) Weber of Bend, OR, Rick L. Koontz and Bryan L. Koontz, both of Spokane Valley, Rebecca (Linden) Anderson of Edmonds, WA and Amy (Jeff) Bettinger Werner of Sammamish, WA as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation and Vigil Service will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 5 PM at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, officiated by Father Charles Skok.

Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch, 1732 S. 72nd St West, Billings, MT, 59106.

The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Court Assisted Living and Valley Hospital and Medical Center for their professionalism and love shown to Donald.
