Food bank plans move

The Medical Lake Food Bank, finding its space cramped and demand for food increasing, will move to a new building this summer.

The food bank will build a modular center at 312 Grace in Medical Lake, board President Robert Kibling said. That building will be about 2,000 square feet, roughly double the current one at 211 N. LeFreve.

It should open in June, Kibling said.

The food bank has operated since 1979 and in its current location since 1986, sharing space with an adjoining secondhand retail store that generates income for the food bank, Director Peg James said.

With the retail store seeing more business, and with more community demand for food, the board needed to find a larger space, James said.

Design Space Modular Buildings will design the new facility. Kibling said the goal is to keep construction under $150,000.

Stop N Go adds second joint

Stop N Go Drive-In in Spokane Valley has added a second location, in north Spokane at 6325 N. Wall St. A grand opening was held Saturday.

The original Stop N Go Drive In at 6505 E. Sprague Ave. opened in July 2010.

Owner Phil Costello touted his ingredients and simple menu: “We don’t use any crazy ingredients in our burgers. No preservatives. No ammonia. Just beef and fat,” he said. “It’s as healthy as a burger and fries can get.”

Consignment store opens

Mary Kay Mummey has opened upcycled furniture and clothing store Mommy & Me Consignment at 1314 S. Grand Blvd.

The shop is open seven days. It sells new and used kids clothing. Trades for store credit will be made. Don Jamison of NAI Black arranged the lease.
