Obituary: Hanches, Triantafilia Rose

Triantafilia Rose Hanches passed away March 2, 2012 at the age of 99.

She was born on August 24, 1912 in the village of Fourna, Evrytania, Greece to George and Alexandra Stefanis.

She married Kostantinos Gus Hanches on January 10, 1932 and came to America where Gus was the owner and operator of the Hanches Cleaners in downtown Spokane, Washington.

Their first home was located in Liberty Lake, Washington.

They later moved to their home in the Spokane Valley where Triantafilia pursued her passion for gardening.

Her home was surrounded by beautiful flowers and her garden provided her family and friends with fresh fruits and vegetables.

She was very proud of her Greek heritage and was a devout member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church in Spokane.

She and her husband were active supporters of the annual Greek Festival and many of the other activities of the church.

She was a charter member of the Spokane Chapter of the Daughters of Penelope, a member of the Women’s Hellenic Society, and later the Philoptochos Society.

In 1994 she moved to Sammamish, Washington where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law until the time of her passing.

Triantafilia was predeceased by her husband Gus, son Jim, and her seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter Alexandra Delegans (George) and son Nicolas (Maria); grandchildren Chris Delegans (Edie), Maria Burke (Mark), Teresa Avery (Paul), Constantine Hanches, John Hanches, Presvytera Fotini Roll (Father John); great grandchildren George Delegans, Austin, Andrew and Lauren Burke, Yianni and Nicolas Roll.

She will always be remembered as a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was loved by all who knew her.

The funeral will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012.

Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Holy Trinity Section, Spokane, Washington at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 9, 2012.
