Obituary: Levno, Loretta Marie

Age 79

LEVNO, Loretta Marie
(Age 78)

Loretta passed away March 3, 2012 in Spokane Valley, WA.

She was born March 5, 1933 in Scobey, MT.

In 1943, her family moved to Richland, WA where her father worked for the war department.

She was active in the community with 4-H, loved volunteering and later worked for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Pasco, WA.

She graduated from Columbia High School, Richland in 1951.

She also attended the Sacred Heart Nursing Program in Spokane.
Loretta married Robert A. Levno in May 1952.

They had eight children who survive her, Guy, Terry, John and Dan Levno, all of Spokane, Gwen Melcher of Spokane, Patti Bennett of Kennewick, WA, Donnelle Holstein of Coeur d’Alene, ID and Dianne Beckemeier of Liberty Lake, WA.

She is also survived by her brother, Terry Liggett of Great Falls, MT; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Maryetta Liggett and her sister, Hope Caprye Boos.
Loretta, her mother, Maryetta and her sister, Hope were instrumental in starting the first Montessori schools and Montessori teacher certification in Spokane and Eastern Washington.

In 1974, Loretta moved from Spokane to Kennewick, where she was director of the House of Children, Montessori School.

In 1992, she returned to Spokane to help raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Loretta loved playing the piano throughout her life for family, community and school events.

She devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She modeled generosity of herself and talents, unending love for her family and her faith in God.

She was a wonderful cook that provided not only a place, but amazing food for family and friends to join together.

She had a great sense of humor that lasted up to the end of her life.

The most important thing in her life was her family, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and dear friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Good Samaritan Nursing Home for their care and compassion that they gave to “Retta”.


A Vigil Service will be held Friday, March 9, 2012 at 5:30 PM at the funeral home.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial and celebration at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Otis Orchards, WA on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM.

A reception and other services will follow.
