The Miss Spokane 100th Anniversary Scholarship Pageant was held Feb. 19 at the Lincoln Center, where 10 young women competed for the title of Miss Spokane and Miss Inland Empire.
McKenzi Novell, a junior at Gonzaga University, was awarded the crown and title of Miss Spokane 2012. Brittany Cozza, a sophomore at Gonzaga, was awarded the title of Miss Inland Empire 2012.
Other Miss Spokane contestants included Sondra Willmann, a junior at Whitworth; Ramya Ramanathan, a senior at WSU; Madison Hilpert, a sophomore at EWU; Kaitlyn Beres, currently enrolled at EWU; Emily Lemcke, who plans to return to the University of Montana; Alexandra Hedin, a senior at Gonzaga; Melissa Keyser, a sophomore at Spokane Falls Community College; and Allysin Binversie, a senior at Gonzaga.
Five local teenagers also competed for the title of Miss Spokane’s Outstanding Teen 2012 and Miss Inland Empire’s Outstanding Teen 2012 during the annual event.
Julia Jean Brown, a sophomore at Gonzaga Prep, was crowned Miss Spokane’s Outstanding Teen. Whitney Demarest, a sophomore at Mt. Spokane High School, was awarded the title of Miss Inland Empire’s Outstanding Teen.
Other teen contestants included Drayke Hilpert, a sophomore at East Valley; Joy Davis, an eighth-grader at Chase Middle School; and Andrea Muraoka, a freshman at Ferris.
