Education Notebook: NWC stages musical play for spring
Northwest Christian Schools drama students will perform “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” tonight at 7 in the Northwest Christian High School Chapel, 5104 E. Bernhill Road in Colbert.
The cast is Julie Nowak, as Milly; Evan Jarms, as Adam; Lauren Block, as Alice; Kendal Davis, as Dorcas; Jen Haveman, as Ruth; Katie White, as Liza; Bekah Nixon, as Martha; Rachel Peterson, as Sarah; Jordan Padula, as Gideon; Grant Bakken, as Benjamin; Anton Bohse, as Caleb; Jeremiah Taylor, as Daniel; Seth Miller, as Ephraim; Cameron Vaughn, as Frank; Walter Harris, as Jeb; Daniel Amado, as Nathan; Cody Kilpatrick, as Luke; Andrew House, as Matt; Patrick Harbine, Joel; Austin Raver, as Zeke; Matt Salzano, as Mr. Hoallum; Sadie Garner, as Mrs. Hoallum; Michael McCord, as Mr. Sander; Caitlyn Wilson, as Mrs. Sander; and Shea Montgomery, as the preacher.
Performances continue Friday at 7 p.m. A dinner theater benefit performance will be Saturday at 6 p.m. and a matinee show will be Sunday at 2 p.m. Other evening performances include Wednesday-March 16 at 7 p.m.

Onstage at NC
The drama students North Central High School will continue their spring performance tonight in the NC Performing Arts Theatre at 7:30 p.m., with “It’s Kinda Awkward,” an evening of student-directed work. Shows will also be Friday and Saturday at 7:30 in the Theatre.
“Trapped,” written by senior Jack Williams, is about two men who are trapped somewhere. Samuel Holland and Kyle Sogge will play the two men.
Andrew King, a sophomore, wrote “Stuff Happens,” about two roommates who take in a homeless man. The cast is Kaylan Martin, Aldrik Ensminger, Samantha Orr, Agathe Pierrefitte, David Seaman and Samuel Holland.
“Just Driving Through,” set in the Little Caesar’s drive through window, was written by senior Amanda Lunnen. The cast is Jake DeVleming, Gus Johnston, Alexis Jones, Andrew King, Kyle Sogge, Morgan Soth, Kailee Theisen, Keith Tucker, Maddi Walther and Gunnar Wycoff.
Another student-written play, “I Love You,” by Anonymous, is about dating and falling in love. It features Alyssa Chamberlain, Jake DeVleming, Hannah Lee, Gus Johnson and Elsa Anderson.
“Esla and Frinz Go Partying” by playwright Bruce Shearer, is about balloons at a child’s birthday party. It features Elsa Anderson, Mikyla Bordner, Brandon Bott, Christopher Fortner, Hunter Hamilton, Cori Kinney and Bella Morin.
Alexis Jones, Jacob Mallery and Myranda Smith will perform “Hold for Three” by playwright Sherry Kramer. “It’s Not You,” by author Craig Pospisil, about four friends on a subway in New York City will be performed by Mikyla Bordner, Brandon Bott, Katherine Cowley and Sarah Wier.
NC dancers and drama students Amadi Alegria, Megan Arnold, Kaitlynn Blair, Mikyla Bordner, Erin Cameron, Katherine Cowley, Emily Denny, Brianna Donnally, Shakyla Hacker, Hunter Hamilton, Mary Hoffman, Lauren Jamison, Nicole Lorrekovich, McKenna Martin, Hope Miller, Bella Morin, Emily Pyper, Kyle Sogge, Morgan Soth, Hannah Sylvester, Sarah Wier, Kailee Theisen, Keith Tucker and Mary Wisbey will perform a dance number to “Nine in the Afternoon” by Panic at the Disco.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for NC GSL card holders and senior citizens.
About SPRINT
Spokane Public Schools will have an orientation meeting tonight for parents and families interested in the SPRINT program. The meeting will be in the Shaw Middle School library, 4106 N. Cook St., at 5 p.m.
The alternative learning program, housed at Shaw, relies on family involvement; parents and guardians work with teachers to enhance the learning environment and the demanding, project-based curriculum.

NWC dinner, auction
The Northwest Christian Schools Chess Club will have a spaghetti feed and silent auction Friday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the school cafeteria, 5104 E. Bernhill Road in Colbert, to help send the elementary chess students to their upcoming national championship tournament.
Cost is $5 per person or $20 for a family of up to six people.

Whitworth ethics
Whitworth University, 300 W. Hawthorne Road, will host its 28th annual Whitworth Writing Rally on March 17, at 8:30 and 11 a.m.
The event is for students in preschool through sixth grade and will feature children’s and young adults author Tony Abbott. His works include “Firegirl,” “The Postcard” and the fantasy book series “The Secrets of Droon.”
Cost is $18 per writer and includes snacks, writing and art supplies, a T-shirt, a reception and participation for one child and a parent or adult guardian. A parent or guardian must accompany each child, however Whitworth students have volunteered to accompany children whose parents or guardians cannot attend.

Windsong tours
Windsong School, 4225 W. Fremont Road, will offer “Walk through Windsong,” tours and classroom observations for parents interested in learning more about the school, beginning Wednesday at 8 a.m.
Windsong offers parent and child classes, preschool, kindergarten, first and second grade.
