New kid shakes up town in ‘Footloose’

Kenny Wormald in “Footloose.”

“Footloose”: The entertainingly cheesy ’80s dance pic gets a reboot from director Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow”), and Kenny Wormald gets the role made famous (kind of) by Kevin Bacon: a big-city boy who can’t believe the small town he’s just moved to has outlawed public dancing. Conflict and gyrating hips ensue. With Dennis Quaid as the puritan preacher, and Julianne Hough as the preacher’s daughter. (1:53, PG-13 for some teen drug and alcohol use, sexual content, violence and language) • • 1/2

“The Skin I Live In”: In this melodramatic and haunting film from Pedro Almodovar, Antonio Banderas is a commanding and unspeakably creepy Spanish plastic surgeon who keeps as prisoner and lab rat the lovely Elena Anaya, for whom he crafts a luminous new skin. Like “Silence of the Lambs,” the movie makes the heart race and the skin crawl. (2:00, R for disturbing violent content including sexual assault, strong sexuality, graphic nudity, drug use and language) • • •
